Sanderson x Disney Wallpaper and Fabric: Pooh, Bambi, Dumbo and More

The Disney Home x Sanderson collection pairs much-loved Disney characters with designs from Sanderson's own archive, in both wallpaper and fabric. Below we walk through the stories in the range, from Winnie the Pooh to Alice in Wonderland, and share ideas for using them in nurseries, children's bedrooms and living rooms.

Where Sanderson's archive meets Disney

What makes this collection more than a set of character prints is how much of it draws on Sanderson's past. Mickey & Minnie sends the pair adventuring across a playful 1934 Sanderson design, produced in the same scale and colourways as the original hand-block-printed archive document. Mickey At The Farm keeps the block-print detail of an original 1928 design and comes in two archival colourways.

The Mickey In The Clouds Wallpaper has perhaps the best back story of all. It was first produced in 1930 as part of Sanderson's Mickey & Minnie nursery collection, and its aeroplane motif featured in a decorative border in the archive nursery catalogue. Today it comes as a wallpaper panel, with Mickey gliding among cotton-candy clouds.

Storybook favourites: Pooh, Bambi, Dumbo and Alice

For Winnie the Pooh fans, the Hundred Acre Wood Wallpaper is a hand-painted map that twists and turns through the wood, inspired by the classic storybooks. It's digitally printed on non-woven, shown in Cashew, and suits a nursery, bedroom or playroom.

The Bambi Fabric sets Bambi and a host of woodland friends in a springtime scene of archive Sanderson florals, created especially for this collection. Dumbo, meanwhile, heads off to the big top with a hand-painted line-up of plumed horses, leaping tigers and inquisitive giraffes in the Dumbo Wallpaper.

The Alice In Wonderland Wallpaper follows the White Rabbit into a world of the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Each character is hand painted from original Disney artwork, so there's plenty to spot. And 101 Dalmatians brings together Sanderson archive motifs and scenes from the original film, with a hand-block look and generous spacing.

Ideas for a nursery

A nursery is often a small room, so think about scale first. A design with generous spacing, such as 101 Dalmatians, or a single panel like Mickey In The Clouds, gives you a feature wall without crowding the space. Paint the remaining walls in a soft shade lifted from the paper and the room will feel calm rather than busy.

Many designs come as both wallpaper and fabric, including Bambi, Dumbo, Alice In Wonderland, 101 Dalmatians and Mickey & Minnie. Matching curtains to the walls gives an all-over storybook look; for something lighter, use the print on one and keep the other plain. The Bambi and Hundred Acre Wood fabrics are printed on 100% cotton at 20,000 Martindale, for curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery.

Bedrooms that grow with your child

As children get older, a pattern with a bit more graphic structure can last longer. The Mickey Stripe Wallpaper combines Sanderson's Tiger Stripe with Mickey's poses from an original black-and-white Disney character sketch, given a subtle outline to resemble a sticker. It's rotary printed on a wide-width non-woven.

For young adventurers, the Donald Nautical Fabric has Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie voyaging across the seven seas among hand-painted rowing boats, yachts and galleons, flanked by sharks and seagulls. Minnie On The Move, with Minnie waving from her open-top car, is inspired by a hand-painted wall sticker from the Sanderson archive and makes a cheerful pair of curtains.

A lighter touch for living rooms

You don't need a whole wall to enjoy these designs in shared spaces. A pair of cushions in 101 Dalmatians Fabric on a sofa, or a roman blind in Mickey At The Farm, adds a playful note that grown-ups can enjoy too. Because so much of the range is rooted in archive florals and block-print detail, it sits comfortably alongside more traditional furnishings. Pick out one colour from the print and repeat it in a throw or lampshade to tie it into the room.
