The Seletti Tetris Mirror and Other Statement Mirrors by Seletti

A statement mirror does two jobs at once: it brings light into a room and it gives the wall a focal point. This guide starts with the Seletti Tetris Mirror by Giampiero Romanò, then looks at the other Seletti mirrors we stock and how to choose the right one for your room.

The Tetris Mirror by Giampiero Romanò

The Seletti Tetris Mirror is designed by Giampiero Romanò and takes its name, and its idea, from the Tetris game. What makes it special is the frame: an elegant gold border that appears to break apart into shifting blocks, giving the whole piece a playful sense of motion. Seletti describes it as having a touch of Alice in Wonderland magic, and that is a fair description. It looks like a classic gilt mirror that has started to come undone.

Tetris Mirror by Seletti

It is made from glass with a polyurethane frame, and there are two versions: the original Tetris and the larger Tetris 2.0. Seletti suggests a dressing room, bathroom, hallway or the wall above a console table. Above a console is our favourite spot, because the scattered blocks have room to breathe and the table gives the composition a solid base.

Other Seletti mirrors with a sense of humour

If the Tetris has you thinking about something unexpected, Seletti's wider range goes in several directions.

  • Characters on the frame. On the Circus Mirror, funny characters from the circus world cling to the frame, struggling to hold on and pulling it down with them. It is designed with the humour of Uto Balmoral, and it suits the "apartment gallery" look.
  • Surreal shapes. The Liberty Mirror belongs to Naked Truth, Seletti's collection of surreal mirrors that take a universally recognisable part of the body as their decorative subject. It is unapologetic, which is rather the point.
  • Retro gaming. The Pixel Mirror is a collection of four cute mirrors with colourful pixelated frames that recall 1980s and 90s video games. Hang one in a hallway, games room or teenager's bedroom, or group several. It pairs naturally with the Tetris theme.
  • A mirror that looks back. The Reflecting Mirror sets animated LCD eyes into a classic frame. As your reflection appears, the eyes look back at you and around the room.

Seletti x Toiletpaper mirrors

Seletti's collaboration with Toiletpaper magazine produces mirrors that are as much about the image as the reflection. The Seletti x Toiletpaper Baroque Mirror has an ornate frame with curved decorative elements inspired by the baroque movement, combined with Toiletpaper's irreverent imagery. For something lighter, the Seletti x Toiletpaper Plastic Mirror sits halfway between a mirror and a painting, in small designs (Shit, Drill, Two of Spades) and medium ones (Honey, Lipsticks, Revolver, Snakes). Hang one as a witty accent in a hallway, bathroom or bedroom, or group several for a gallery wall.

Mirrors that light up

Two Seletti mirrors double as lighting. The Super Mirror has a graphic frame set with six dimmable bulbs, like a backstage dressing-room mirror reimagined through radical Italian design. The Supercurve Mirror has a bold Perspex frame with soft curves, hiding an integrated LED strip that casts a warm, colourful glow. Either one gives a dark hallway or dressing room both a light source and a focal point.

How to choose your statement mirror

  • Start with the wall. A large, plain wall can take the Tetris 2.0 or a lit mirror. A narrow hallway might suit one Pixel or Plastic Mirror, or a short vertical row of them.
  • Decide how loud you want it. The Tetris is witty but still reads as a gold mirror from across the room. The Circus, Liberty and Toiletpaper designs make a stronger statement.
  • Think about light. If the space is dim, a mirror with its own lighting solves two problems at once. Otherwise, place a mirror where it can catch daylight from a window.
  • Let it stand alone. A statement mirror works best without competing artwork right next to it. Keep the surrounding wall simple and pick up one colour or finish nearby, such as gold in a lamp or frame.
