Checkmate Throw - Doing Goods

This Checkmate Throw is printed by hand with carved wooden blocks and oh-so versatile. Lay it over your bed, sofa or have a picknick or beach session with this beauty.

These unique throws are handmade in India from 100% cotton. Due to the handcrafted nature of this item, expect slight variations in the appearance of each piece.

All Doing Goods textiles are 100% handmade using traditional blockprint techniques.
The crafts people they work with were taught by their parents, who were, in turn, taught by theirs – each generation working almost exactly as the one before.

After designing a pattern and cutting it into a piece of wood, the patterns are printed on the fabric. Tedious and precise work, blockprinting is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing. And we love it. Large pieces of printed fabric are sun-dried. Each piece is unique.

Back in the Doing Goods workshop they use the fabrics to make throws, pillows and other accessories.

ABOUT DOING GOODS

Doing Goods was established in 2010 by Netherlands-based couple Aanyoung Yeh and Jan Swinkels. They offer a carefully curated selection of trinkets and curiosities sourced on treasure-hunting missions all across the globe.

The duo embrace the Japanese design philosophy of wabi-sabi, believing things that have been used, worn and loved to hold their own perfectly imperfect beauty. Doing Goods collaborates with small businesses and collectives around the world, working with skilled craftspeople to produce goods that have a truly personal touch.

Expect hand-tufted animal rugs, shaped into striking leopards, giraffes and pandas.
