Sanderson x Giles Deacon 'Wilsford - Conch' Wallpaper

Giles's love for subverting design tropes, drew him to explore new iterations of this Sanderson archive original. The archive itself houses a fine collection of mid-late nineteenth century Trompe-l'oeil wallpaper patterns, depicting curtains, bows, ribbons and tassels and here, Wilsford is cloaked in illusion. With a clever use of refined screens, from a distance, Wilsford has the appearance of beautifully draping fabric. Created using stylised flat colours, Wilsford suits the rotary printing technique and mimics the original document to staggering effect. Like an aged, hazy memory of a bygone period, perfectly preserved and dramatically beautiful, the design rejoices in decayed decadence, repurposed in a sumptuous, grand scale. Wilsford blooms like an old house, reborn, having found its way through time to be revealed in new beauty.

ABOUT SANDERSON

Since 1860, Sanderson has encapsulated quintessential British design. Lending its iconic florals and timeless weaves to all kinds of homes across the nation.

The oldest brand in the Sanderson arsenal, from where they derive the namesake of their group, begun life in 1860, as an importer of fine French wallpapers to London. Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd played a pivotal role in defining English interior decoration tastes and its early success led to displaying designs at London’s finest showroom, at Berners Street. Around this time in 1924, Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd were awarded The Royal Warrant, becoming “purveyors of wallpaper and paint” to the court of George V.
