Persian Carpet #71

This Shiraz Kilim is an exquisite example of geometric design incorporating a range of animals and birds within a beautiful palette of rich contrasting colours.

Kilims are usually made from wool which is interwoven instead of knotted, this makes the surface of the rug flat instead of having a 'pile'. They are known for their simple, bold geometric designs and vibrant colours. They were originally used as blankets or to decorate the floor of nomad tents but over the last century have found popularity in the west.

All our Kilims are handwoven and their versatility makes them perfect either on floors or even as wall hangings as they are similar to tapestries being lightweight and highly decorative pieces. Despite being incredibly popular with western buyers, their designs have stayed very true to their roots and have not been woven with the export market in mind. Buyers will get a strong sense of authenticity with Kilim rugs which are still woven with traditional patterns and colours.

Courthouse Interiors owner Hoss is originally from Iran and has spent the last 30 years selecting handmade Persian carpets directly from the infamous Bazaars in Tehran. To say he has a passion for carpets is an understatement, the variety, quality and selection of carpets at Courthouse Interiors is not only extensive but demonstrate the beauty and versatility of both modern and antique Persian carpet designs.

Fall in love with the impeccable craftsmanship and ancient heritage that is woven into the history of each rug and invest in a cultural heirloom.
