Polspotten: The Dutch Brand Behind Bold Vases, Homeware and Furniture

Polspotten is a Dutch design brand that has been making bold, playful homeware since 1986. Here we introduce the brand and walk through the pieces we stock beyond its well-known pots: glass vases and ornaments, candle holders, tableware and small furniture, with ideas on where each one works best.

About Polspotten

Based in Amsterdam, Polspotten has built its name on an eclectic mix of furniture, lighting and accessories that steer well clear of the ordinary. Its pieces have a quirky, artistic edge, and many are designed to work as sculptures as much as functional objects. That mix of humour and polish is why the brand sits so comfortably in both minimal and maximalist rooms.

Polspotten pots and planters have a guide of their own, so this one focuses on everything else in the range.

Vases and Glass

Glass is where Polspotten's love of colour shows most clearly. The Bubbles & Bottles Chic Mix Set brings together pieces that are synonymous with the brand: hand-worked, mouth-blown glass ornaments, with four bottles and four stoppers in the set. Group them on a windowsill where the light comes through, or split them up as single accents on shelves.

The Steps Vase is made from stepped, full-coloured grey glass, 30cm tall, and is designed to catch the light and give off a soft glow. It works with or without flowers on a dining or coffee table. For something more architectural, the Roman Vases come as a set of four shapes from 25cm to 52cm tall, powder-coated in soft contemporary hues with a sanded texture that nods to the ancient world.

And for a bit of fun, the Fish Jar is made by hand from 30% recycled glass. Fill it with sweets or leave it empty as an ornament; it comes in a long, slim Small (48cm) and a shorter, fatter Large (24cm).

Candle Holders and Shelf Pieces

The Drip Candle Holder by designer Pascal Smelik grows out of his fascination with deformity: every kink and curve of its melting form is unique. It comes in gold and silver, and looks just as good alone on a mantelpiece as it does in a pair down the dinner table.

The Heritage Sphere Candle Holder comes from Polspotten's Heritage collection, archive designs once made in Senegalese dimb wood and now reborn in stone. This stacked-sphere piece stands 50cm tall. On a bookshelf, the Sandglass Ball, a sculptural sand timer in clear glass with coloured sand, is a quiet conversation starter.

Tableware for Colourful Tables

The Grandpa series mixes nostalgia with a modern edge: a colourful family of tableware with real gold detailing. The Grandpa Teapot holds 700ml and is made from glazed New Bone China porcelain, and the Grandpa High Tea Set stands 44cm tall for a relaxed afternoon tea.

For drinks, the Blocks Multicoloured Glass Tumblers have a sandblasted block pattern, hold 250ml each, are dishwasher safe and arrive in a gift box. Pair them with the Jug With Hole, which holds 850ml and comes in Seagreen or Moss. Our tip: don't match everything. Polspotten tableware is designed to be mixed.

Small Furniture With Personality

Polspotten's furniture is compact, glossy and versatile. The Tip Tap Stool doubles as a side table and comes in 14 lacquered colours, so it can add a pop of colour beside a sofa or bed. The Zig Zag family, including the Zig Zag Coffee Table at 60cm across, brings a sculptural zig zag form and glossy finish to a living room. And the Twister Side Table, a chunkier take on Polspotten's Classic Side Table, is made from 100% recycled cast aluminium with a powder-coated finish in Black, Deep Blue, Light Blue and more.

A simple way in: choose one piece of furniture in a strong colour, then repeat that colour once elsewhere in the room, in a vase, a tumbler or a cushion.
