Fatboy Paletti Explained: Every Module, Set and Cover

Fatboy Paletti is a modular outdoor lounge range, and the names of the pieces can be confusing the first time you look at them. This guide explains what each module is, what it does on its own, and how the ready-made sets bundle them together, so you can work out exactly which pieces you need.

We have a separate post on planning Paletti layouts. Here we stick to the pieces themselves.

The idea behind Paletti

Fatboy puts it simply: Paletti's secret is its modularity. Every module sits on a pallet base, and you add, swap and rearrange modules to suit the number of people you want to seat. That means you can start small and extend later, rather than committing to one fixed sofa shape for ever.

It also means it helps to know the vocabulary. Once you understand the Seat, the Corner Seat and the Hocker, the rest of the range makes sense.

The core modules

Seat

The Paletti Seat is the building block of the range: one pallet base with a seat cushion and a backrest. Line up two or more and you have a sofa. If you only buy one type of module, it will probably be this one.

Corner Seat

The Paletti Corner Seat has backrests on two sides, and Fatboy describes it as the anchor of any Paletti layout. It is the piece that lets a straight sofa turn a corner. On its own, it also works as a deep lounge chair, which makes it a useful first purchase for a smaller terrace.

Hocker

The Paletti Hocker is the backless module. Use it as a footstool, an extra seat or a pouf, or push it against a Seat to make a chaise longue. It is the most flexible piece in the range, and it is handy to have one spare for when friends turn up.

Tables, daybeds and chairs

The Paletti Table uses the same pallet base, topped with a powder-coated aluminium inlay, so it becomes a low coffee table. Because it shares the base, it sits neatly alongside Seats, Corner Seats and Hockers. Use it for drinks, books or a sharing platter.

The Paletti Daybed joins a Seat and a Hocker into one long lounger with a backrest, giving you a 155cm-deep spot for reading, napping or lying in the sun. If you know someone in your household will always stretch out, this saves you assembling the combination yourself.

The Paletti Lounge Chair is a large, sturdy outdoor armchair, spacious enough to curl up in with a favourite book. Slide it next to a lounge set when you need an extra seat for drinks with friends and family. Spills are no problem either: a wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs.

The ready-made sets

If you would rather not count modules, Fatboy bundles them into sets. The Paletti Lounge Sofa is the natural starting point: two seats with armrests, ready to extend whenever you like.

From there, the sets step up in size:

The Medium and Large sets also come in versions that include a table: the Paletti Lounge Furniture Set Medium With Table and the Set Large With Table. These are worth considering if you would otherwise buy a Paletti Table separately, as everything arrives as one matched group.

A good rule of thumb: buy a set to get the main shape in one go, then add single Seats or Hockers later as your needs change. That is exactly what the modular system is designed for.

Covers and looking after Paletti

Paletti is built for the outdoors, but in heavy rain and over the off-season Fatboy recommends covering it, or storing it under a roof on a dry floor. The Paletti Cover slips over your seating to keep it clean, dry and ready for the next sunny day.

The cover comes in three sizes. The 1-seat cover fits a single Seat, Corner Seat or Hocker, so measure up your arrangement and match the cover to it when you order your modules. It is far easier to buy the covers at the same time than to remember in October.
