Qeeboo's Giraffe In Love is one of the most talked-about lights we sell, and it comes in more versions than many people realise. This guide walks through each one, from the table-top chandelier to the giant outdoor giraffe, so you can work out which suits your space.
The idea behind the design
Giraffe In Love is the creation of Italian designer Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba, known simply as Marcantonio. Every version shows a giraffe holding a chandelier in its mouth, and in most versions it's a classic Marie-Therese style chandelier.
The design represents irony and lightness. As Qeeboo puts it, the giraffe is in love but doesn't know it yet, because her heart is far from her head and she lives love light-heartedly. It's a lovely story to share when guests ask about it, and they will ask.
Indoor floor-standing giraffes: M and XL
The Giraffe In Love M Indoor stands 265cm tall. Qeeboo suggests it for a grand hallway, stairwell, restaurant or double-height living room, and those are exactly the spaces where it shines. Before ordering, measure your ceiling height and leave clearance above the chandelier so the giraffe doesn't look squeezed in.
There's also the Giraffe In Love M Indoor White, Campari Edition. It's the same 2.65-metre giraffe, made in white as part of a collaboration with Campari, and it is suitable for indoor use only. White reads softer against pale walls and works well in a bright, airy hallway.
For a truly large space, the Giraffe In Love XL Indoor is the size of an authentic young giraffe. This 4-metre high statue is suitable for indoor settings, so think atriums, hotel lobbies, galleries or a home with a genuinely lofty entrance hall.
Outdoor versions for gardens and terraces
If you want the giraffe outside, choose one of the outdoor models. The Giraffe In Love M Outdoor is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, which gives you flexibility if you'd like to move it between a garden room and a terrace.
The Giraffe In Love XL Outdoor is also the size of an authentic young giraffe and is suitable for outdoor settings, thanks to its wind and water-resistant chandelier. It's a striking way to mark a garden entrance, a pool area or a restaurant courtyard.
A few practical points for outdoor placement:
- Plan your power supply first. Talk to a qualified electrician about a suitable outdoor connection before the giraffe arrives.
- Position it where it can be seen from inside the house, so you enjoy it in the evenings even when it's too cold to sit outside.
- Planting around the feet, such as tall grasses or ferns, helps it look as though it has wandered into the garden.
Smaller spaces: the table-top chandelier and wall lamp
You don't need a double-height hall to enjoy the design. The Giraffe In Love Chandelier is a table-top sized giraffe holding a miniature chandelier in its mouth. It's a lovely accent on a sideboard, a console in the hall or a bookshelf, and it brings the same humour to a much smaller room.
The Giraffe In Love Wall Lamp is the wall version of the design, with the giraffe holding a classic Marie-Therese style chandelier. It comes equipped with a metal support for hanging on your wall. Try it above a bed in place of a headboard light, on a landing, or on a dark painted wall where the giraffe will really stand out.
Which one should you choose?
- Grand hallway or stairwell: the M Indoor, or the white Campari Edition.
- Very large indoor space: the XL Indoor.
- Garden, terrace or courtyard: the M Outdoor or XL Outdoor.
- Everyday rooms: the table-top chandelier or the wall lamp.
